THE WASTED SUPPER - CHRISTMAS SPECIAL

On 19th December I am very happy to announce that I will be guest chefing with the Dinner Ladies to bring you THE WASTED SUPPER, an opportunity to be part of a completely sustainable evening celebrating food & fashion. The concept is to swap for your supper at our charity supper club by bringing items from your larder or fridge you would like to clear out before the holidays. Dinner Ladies culinary collective will then put their creative skills to the test by bringing these ingredients to life and creating a meal for you to enjoy together. 

Partnering with Supply compass, a responsible platform connecting brands with the best manufacturers we are throwing in a clothes swap too. Bring along any unwanted garms and exchange for something fresh, one person’s trash is another persons treasure!

Our hosts for the evening are Benk & Bo, a creative space in the heart of East London. 

Come and join us for an evening of fun, food, fashion and sustainable cocktails and show your support for the war on waste, all for the price of something pre-loved. Any leftover food and clothing will be donated to the Streets Kitchen.

A totally vegetarian evening!

Charity Yoga Brunch

On the 12th January, NibsEtc, ChicP and Lucy (shake.that.asana) will be hosting a charity yoga brunch at the beautiful St Cuthbert’s Centre in Earl’s Court. 

Refettorio Felix, the charity we shall be supporting, is based at the centre. They are are a community kitchen that combats food waste and promotes social cohesion. 

The collaboration is therefore a match made in heaven- NibsEtc is an exciting brand in the food waste market, using juice pulp to create delicious products; whilst ChicP is a firm favourite on the hummus shelves, creating hummus from vegetables that otherwise would have been wasted. 

Please do join us for an hour of yoga in this beautiful space, followed by a brunch supported by WildFizz Kombucha and prepared by the talents behind the brands, Chloe and Hannah.

All profits will, of course, go to Refettorio Felix. It would be great to see you there.

Tribe’s 1,000,000 MILE CHALLENGE

Join the Mission: Run with ChicP!

Tribe are running 1,000,000 miles across 1000 nationwide + virtual events in 20 days to push their limits and raise funds to fight human trafficking.

As an ambassador for this mission, on 5th February we will be embarking on a 5km run that goes along the river across Wandsworth Bridge and Battersea Bridge, finishing up with plenty of ChicP houmous to tuck into before you head home.

This will be a fun, relaxed run. A great opportunity to meet new people, keep up your fitness and support a fantastic charity.

We are delighted to be joining and donating ChicP to this special event for Urban Food Fortnight is a collaboration between London based social enterprises; London Cooking ProjectBe Enriched, a youth and community charity and horticultural social enterprise Cultivate London and celebrates the full cycle of growing, cooking and eating food in London.

The event will take part in 2 sections:

Autumn vegetable planting session, 5.30pm - 7pm

We will be holding an autumn vegetable planting session, during which drinks and nibbles will be supplied by local producers, giving people the chance to not only plant food that will be used by the community going forward, but also to pick up some new skills and knowledge related to food growing and cooking.

Community meal, 7.30pm - 9pm

Food provided during the event will be grown and harvested in the community kitchen garden spaces within the Ethelburga Estate, Battersea and from London based surplus food suppliers including City Harvest. The dinner will take place at the Battersea Canteen, an initiative run in partnership with Be Enriched and London Cooking Project. The Canteen’s wonderful chefs will devise a fantastic seasonal menu around the food that’s growing in the kitchen garden and will be cooked on site for all to enjoy at the dinner. 

The Battersea Canteen is open once a week at London Cooking Project on Tuesday evenings and provides low-cost meals for local people or anyone on a low income or in need of company. The Canteen is run by Be Enriched and their team of volunteers and meals are put together using surplus food that would have otherwise been thrown away by local shops and markets

For this special harvest and planting event for Urban Food Fortnight, produce will also be provided by the community garden and Cultivate London’s main site in Acton.

All are welcome!

There won't be alcohol for sale but guests are welcome to bring a bottle.

This is a free event however booking is essential. Everyone is welcome to attend both parts of the event, or just one - please register for each part here

I am very excited to be talking at the next Food Talks event at Impact Hub Kings Cross on 20th September.

The Food Talks series is brought to you by Impact Hub King's Cross in partnership with Food Ethics CouncilOrganicoThink.Eat.Drink and London Food Link, part of Sustain: The alliance for better food and farming. At each of the Food Talks events, we will hear from expert speakers and attendees alike on the topic of the night. The discussion will be followed by a delicious and free buffet supplied by co-sponsors Organico and Think.Eat.Drink. The idea of our Food Talks series is to stimulate debate about the issues that surround the world of food and to explore solutions to those challenges. We'll start with a discussion of how to make and cook delicious food that also has a positive impact on others and the environment. We’ll look at food and drink makers who are making a difference and ask what we can learn from them? And we’ll hear from speakers who are using food to help build others a better future.

This series will include Danny McCubbin, culture manager at the Jamie Oliver Group; Sarah Lo, Better Health Bakery and myself.

This year will be Soho House's second annual Food Summit and ChicP will be exhibiting for the second time in the wonderful Market space. 

This year’s event will focus on the word ‘Conscious’ in line with Soho Houses’ 2018 initiative Soho Impact – a project centred on improving our environmental impact. Through Food Summit they will be looking at charity and philanthropy, supporting their local communities, sustainability and waste, and they’ll be encouraging members to be more mindful of where their food comes from. 

The event will be set across two days. Day one will be filled with panel discussions leading into interactive activities, followed by a large scale dinner in the evening. Day two will be made up of a series of pop up meals across the site, where we ask guest chefs to demonstrate what the word ‘Conscious’ means to them, their restaurants and their food.

We're very excited to be part of the Just Food x Daylesford Sustainable Supper Club! 

Just Food have partnered with Daylesford cafe in Pimlico to bring you a night of delicious sustainable bites as well as a talk on Daylesford's environmental initiatives.

They are launching a Just Food sustainable supper club with the best and most sustainable restaurants across London. To kick it off there is going to be an evening with Daylesford in Pimlico. They are throwing together a menu of organic, local and seasonal dishes and ChicP hummus will be on the menu and the goody bags :) 

Doors will open at 6pm at Daylesford in Pimlico. You will be greeted with a welcome drink and a speaker from Daylesford will introduce the guests to some of the work they're doing to help fight food waste, and create more secure food systems across the country. You will have a chance to mingle with other sustainable foodies before sitting down to eat at 7.30pm.

The menu will consist of sharing platters among the tables, featuring items such as mini sliders, seasonal salads, tarts, flatbreads and a dessert each. Get excited for some organised fun throughout the evening and the chance to win a few 'susty' prizes. Before you leave each guest will be gifted a sustainable goodie bag.

To celebrate the beginning of December, ChicP has teamed up with Rudehealth to keep you all feeling healthy and fit ready for the festive period!

On the evening of Tuesday 5th December, we are inviting you to join us at Rudehealth Cafe for a quick meet and greet before we head off on the well known river run... this time a different way round (and a little shorter!) so that we can keep our route alight and not in the pitch black!

After a fun, jolly and refreshing run, we will welcome you back with lots of ChicP hummus and rudehealth goodies to tuck into.

The MAIN treat for this event which puts the very valuable £ tag on your ticket, is that you will all be going home with a 1kg tub of hummus. This is for you to munch away on but also for you to go away and put your creative cooking caps on. We want you to come up with the best recipes and post them, blog them or just write an email to us with what you've created. 

The best recipes will be written about on both our social and blog feeds. Dont forget... this is a lot of hummus so there's lots of exciting work to be done ! The hummus also freezes so you can take your time.

The Great Fruit & Veg Adventure: PANEL at Food Matters Live

At Food Matters Live, I will be talking in a Seminar panel on the subject of: Increased Fresh Produce consumption. The answer to the obesity crisis?

With ongoing childhood obesity and health issues globally, combined with more food businesses looking to sell high margin sugary drinks and snack products to an ever younger audience, we have an escalating problem on our hands.

Today nearly a third of children aged 2 to 15 are overweight or obese in the UK alone. 6 out of 10 children don’t know where fresh produce comes from and 50% of all teenagers never have any form of fresh produce on a daily basis. Younger generations are becoming obese at earlier ages and staying obese for longer. 

Reducing obesity levels will save lives as obesity doubles the risk of dying prematurely. Obese adults are seven times more likely to become a type 2 diabetic than adults of a healthy weight which may cause blindness or limb amputation. And not only are obese people more likely to get physical health conditions like heart disease, they are also more likely to be living with conditions like depression.

The economic costs are great, too. We spend more each year on the treatment of obesity and diabetes than we do on the police, fire service and judicial system combined. It was estimated that the NHS in England spent £5.1 billion on overweight and obesity-related ill-health in 2014/15.

The burden is falling hardest on those children from low-income backgrounds. Obesity rates are highest for children from the most deprived areas and this is getting worse. Children aged 5 and from the poorest income groups are twice as likely to be obese compared to their most well off counterparts and by age 11 they are three times as likely.

Obesity is a complex problem with many drivers, including our behaviour, environment, genetics and culture. However, at its root obesity is caused by an energy imbalance: taking in more energy through food than we use through activity. Physical activity is associated with numerous health benefits for children, such as muscle and bone strength, health and fitness, improved quality of sleep and maintenance of a healthy weight. There is also evidence that physical activity and participating in organised sports and after school clubs is linked to improved academic performance. 

But, the international fresh produce sector believes that the main answer to the obesity crisis is straight forward – eat more fantastic fresh produce!

Come to the Seminar debate on Thursday 23rd Nov from 11.30 until 13.00 to hear industry leaders from the international fresh produce sectors discuss and debate how the fresh sector can create that healthy eating revolution for this generation and the next.

Embrace Wellness Wednesday and join us on November 22nd for a special evening. Beyond the mystique and competition, beyond arguments over who makes the best Hummus and even beyond religious and political divides, Hummus! The Movie showcases the personal stories of the colourful men and women who simply live their lives and love their Hummus.
